Charles Roberts

July 26, 1928 — November 30, 2016

Charles A. Roberts, a native and lifelong resident and 1935 Hurricane survivor of Islamorada, Florida passed away peacefully on November 30, 2016 at the age of 88 years. He is preceded in death by his parents Captain Earl Reggie Roberts and Mary Louise Roberts; brothers Captain Earl Reggie Roberts, Jr, and Captain Jack L. Roberts. He is survived by his sister Marlene (David) Wilson of Islamorada and numerous nieces and nephews, grand nephews and grand nieces and cousins.

Charles served in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1950 to 1953.

Charles retired from Mariners Hospital in 1995 after 21 years of service as head cook. He had previously worked as Chef in several local restaurants: Cheeca Lodge, Whale Harbor and Plantation Yacht Harbor.

Charles enjoyed gardening in his spare time and loved collecting and caring for his tropical plants and fruit trees.

He had many lifelong friends and lived his life giving to others and treasured his family. He was also known by his beautiful friendly smiles and his happy outlook on life. He is loved by many and will be missed.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, January 8, 2017 at 3:00 PM at First Baptist Church of Islamorada, 81201 Overseas Highway, Oceanside, Islamorada, FL.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Food Ministry, First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 453, Islamorada, Florida 33036.
