Clayton Allison Burdick, Sr. 71, born in North Adams, MA on January 13, 1939,passed away suddenly on March 11, 2010. He is survived by his wife Joyce of 45 years and his seven children. Tom (Sara)their two children Travis and Dustin of Indiana; Penny and her three children, Allen Lowe, Megan Joe)Sheriff and Ryan Lowe; Andy (Isa) and their two daughters, Marlene (Robert) Young and Brooks; Melanie (Gary) Sands, their two sons, Joshua and Samuel; Sheldon and his wife Guerlain of NC; Kevin (Kim Rodriguez) and their son Chace of SC; Talia (Jorge Gomez) and their daughter Liana. He is also survived by two great grand children, Constantine Lowe and Maddison Sheriff. He has five surviving siblings, brothers Edward and Glenn and sisters Doris Benson, Linda Pedigrew and Phyllis Porter. He also has many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents Lyman and Doris Burdick of Florida & Mass; Brothers Lyman, Jr, Mearl and sisters Anita and Beatrice.
Clay had a great love for his family. He enjoyed being surrounded by his children. But his greatest joy was having his grandchildren always around. Clay made anyone who came to visit feel welcomed. They were an instant friend.
He worked as a heavy equipment operator for major projects here in the Keys; helping to install the water pipeline in the 1970's, The Quarry, Port Bougainville, and he also went overseas to Oman to dig for the pipelines there. Before coming to Florida in 1972, Clay worked for PG&E in California, moved back to Massachusetts and helped install pools and built many roads and highways there. He also had a great love of cars. A Celebration of his Life was held on Monday, March 15, 2010 at the Beyer Funeral Home in Key Largo, Florida.
