Frederick “Freddy” James Young III passed away on Thursday, April 22, 2021 at the age of 78. He had just gotten home from 9 days in the hospital (creating havoc and jokes for the healthcare workers) and was thrilled to see his wife, Barbara, her cat Shelly, and his extra-large TV. He was happy to be home and passed away quickly to all of our shock.
Freddy was born on September 12, 1942 to Virginia Lee and Frederick “Bubber” James Young Jr. at 5:32pm in Jackson, TN. He was the big brother to four other siblings: Charles, Ginger Hurst (John – spouse), and the twins; Jeanne Adair (Jim – spouse) and James.
Due to his exciting adventures in Jackson, Freddy attended and graduated from Baylor Military Academy in Chattanooga, TN. Continuing in the adventures, Freddy attended University of TN for a year and then returned to Jackson to graduate from Lambuth University.
Freddy met his first wife, Janie Ragland from Lynchburg, VA, on Spring Break in Daytona Beach, FL. After spring break, Freddy went to VA and kidnapped Janie to bring her back to Jackson. They were married for 49 years and had two children: Frederick “Little Freddy” James Young IV (Shelia – spouse) and Laura Roshon (Britt – spouse) and multiple dogs, both rescued and adopted.
Freddy loved the St. Louis Cardinals, fishing, old black and white movies, golden oldies music, and a good time and funny pranks! He was fiercely loyal to his family and friends. He always made sure to share his good perspective and funny jokes with everyone and he never met a stranger.
Self-proclaimed “Pool Boy”, Freddy was retired and lived in Key Largo, Florida. He adapted to the Florida life style by incorporating every single pattern of tropical button-up shirt to his attire and still only wore his loafers. His last two-years were filled with love and joy with Barbara.
In addition to his wife, children, and siblings, Freddy is survived by his aunts, Jeanne Hanafee and Gay Cashon.
Services will be announced at a later date due to COVID. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Bemis Historical Society which is near and dear to his family’s legacy and heritage, bemishistory.org or an organization of your choice.
