John Florian Kilian, age 66 of Key Colony Beach Florida, passed away peacefully in his home on May 14th, 2026.
John was a man that truly loved life and lived it to the fullest. He possessed a large, unforgettable presence that could light up any room. Known for his big personality, generous heart, and infectious energy, he made an impact on everyone he met.
He was born Jersey City, New Jersey and grew up in Union, NJ where he developed friendships and friends that he maintained throughout his life. After high school he attended Seton Hall and later finished his education at the University of South Florida where he met his wife, Beth. He started a career in corporate America in his early days, but his love for the water drew him to the lakes of North Carolina and later the Coast where he sold real estate and lived life to the beat of his own drum. If you knew John, you knew that drum beat intensely and occasionally to a suprising rhythm.
His happiest moments were spent on the water where he felt most at home. Whether he was boating, fishing or swimming, the water was his sanctuary and source of endless joy throughout his life.
John's laughter was infectious, he loved telling corny dad jokes to his friends, family and especially his grandchildren and everyone knew he was never above laughing hysterically at his own jokes.
Above all, John was dedicated to his family and loved them fiercely . He was a devoted husband to Beth for 43 years. Together they raised three sons; John, Matthew and Scott. He was an incredibly proud father and a doting grandfather to his 5 grandchildren; John Ryan, Landyn, Beau, James, and Elizabeth: All of whom brought immense joy and light into his life.
He is survived by his wife, three sons, daughter in laws, five grandchildren, and his incredibly fun and loving family from NJ, which includes a brother, four sisters, 12 nieces and nephews, and 10 great nieces and nephews who will miss his laughter and larger than life spirit. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Judy Kilian.
John lived hard, played hard and loved hard.
A celebration of his life will be held Saturday, June 13th, 4pm at Sunset Park in Key Colony Beach Florida.
In lieu of flowers the family is accepting donations for an artificial reef in Johns memory.
