June Helen Dieckhoff, A Life Well Lived
On December 17, 2025, June “Helen” Dieckhoff lost a hard-fought battle with kidney disease. She passed at home surrounded by love.
She was born in Queens, NY, on May 18, 1937, to Alfred Duncan and Helen Galvin. After a sad and motherless adolescence, made worse by the death of her father, her life began to take shape at age 16. As a student at Babylon High School (Long Island,NY) she met her “one and only” Richie Dieckhoff. They were married in 1958. A few years later, after her first child was born, she decided to leave her job with the telephone company to stay home and raise her children. It was an idyllic life, in a modest neighborhood surrounded by young families. In 1975, she began a successful career at Swissair. She and Richie took full advantage of her position with the airline and became enthusiastic world travelers.
In addition, they were avid boaters who enjoyed adventures on their boat “Dutch”, spanning from Rhode Island to the Bahamas. In 1991 while exploring the Florida Keys, they happened upon a place called Ocean Reef in Key Largo. This is where Helen called home until her death. A fun and energetic person, she enjoyed participating in many of the Ocean Reef community activities and clubs as well as entertaining in her own home.
A faithful and devout Catholic, she will be interred at St. Justin the Martyr, Key Largo, Florida. A funeral mass will be held at The Ocean Reef Chapel on January 31st at 10 am. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Jim Woods, her son and daughter-in-law, Richard H. Dieckhoff jr and Michelle Dieckhoff, along with cherished grandchildren, Richard and Jimmy Woods, Carly June and Isabella Dieckhoff.
Her greatest legacy is her love for her husband Richard. It fueled her fight to stay alive. A beautiful and rare 72-year-long love story. This is what she will be remembered for. A life full of love. A life well lived.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to hug a loved one.
