April 19, 1939 — March 4, 2018

Margaret “Jackie” Moates, 78, of Tavernier, Florida left this earth on March 4, 2018 at Baptist Hospital in Miami, Florida. She was born April 19, 1939 in Brewton, Alabama to Shirley and Mollie Mae Fuqua. She and her husband Aubrey Moates moved to The Florida Keys in 1961.

Jackie is survived by her sister Jean Hoomes; daughters Barbara and husband John Hermann, Karen Moates and Greg Hill; Grandchildren: Myra and her husband Eddy Wood, Matthew Reins and his wife Lacey, Amanda and her husband Ken Cofer; Great grandchildren: Derek, Kiya, Remy, Timothy, Emily, Jared, Jacob, Daniel, Chloe, Jacqueline and Penelope; and Great Great grandchild Luke.

Jackie was preceded in death by her husband Aubrey Moates and son Michael Moates.

Jackie worked at Coral Shores High School for 44 years as a guidance secretary then as office manager. Her passion was the students at CSHS.  She loved any interaction with students, from greeting them every morning, to handing out lunch passes. She was known for her ability to calm an upset student with a bottle of water, a cup of apple sauce or package of peanut butter crackers and a compassionate yet realistic ear. Jackie was known by many of the staff, current and former students as Mama Moates. Jackie truly loved her job and many would say bled Green and Gold.
