Mary-Ann Johanson Gibus had her final curtain call Tuesday, February 22, 2023 at 6:00 pm. She passed peacefully at home in Tavernier, Florida.
Mary-Ann was born March 26, 1938 in Belle Mead, New Jersey to Henry Johanson and Gustatina Johanson (Venis). She was the star of the show in her childhood and had a loving and supportive family. She attended Somerville High School graduating in 1956. She married the most handsome plumber of Manville, New Jersey, John Walter Gibus (d. 2004). They had five beautiful children: James Dean Gibus (d. 2020), Lynn Victoria Mohr (Michael), John Jeffrey Gibus, Anthony Henry Gibus (Nancy), Timothy Thomas Gibus. She’s also survived by her grandchildren: Joanna Layne Howard, Luma Martins Gibus, Patrick Ray (Dawn), Jennifer Ray(Dustin)Mary-Ann would also say that her one great granddaughter Peyton Brenner Ray was her reason for living as long as she did.
She is now with her younger brother Richard Johanson (d.2020) but will be eternally missed by her sister in law Linda Johanson, younger sister Corrine Rowley and youngest brother Thomas Johanson (Pamela).
For anyone that knew Mary-Ann you know that she was a natural born actress. It was her calling. She participated in many plays and musicals with the Somerville Valley Players. In 1978 when she moved to the Keys in Florida she continued her passion for the stage with The Key Players. She worked at Clear Channel Radio for many, many years and was very active in the Relay For Life and Habitat for Humanity Charities.
There will be a celebration of life March 13, 2023 from 3-7 at the 40 High Point Road Clubhouse. We would also at this time like to celebrate the life of Mary-Ann’s late son James Dean Gibus.
