Paul "PJ" Milazzo

b. June 5, 1943

Tavernier

Paul “PJ” Milazzo, 81, peacefully departed from this world on May 8, 2025, at his home in Tavernier, Florida. A cherished resident of the Florida Keys, Paul, affectionately known to many as “PJ or Pee Jay," left behind a legacy of love, kindness, and unforgettable memories.

Born on June 5, 1943, in Manhattan, New York, PJ's early life took a significant turn when his family relocated to Hialeah, Florida. It was here that he discovered his passion for racing, frequently attending events at Hialeah Speedway. His enthusiasm for the sport led him to become part of the pit crew for the legendary “Tiger” Tom Pistone. In this role, PJ journeyed across the United States, forming connections with numerous racing greats, including several NASCAR Hall of Famers. He often reminisced about this special chapter of his life, which eventually led him to Charlotte, North Carolina, where fate guided him to his one true love and partner for 43 wonderful years, Barbara.

Together, PJ and Barbara embraced their adventurous spirits, calling many places home—including Texas, the Florida Keys, Tennessee, South Carolina, and North Carolina—before settling back in the place that brought them the most joy, the Florida Keys. Their commitment to community shone brightly, and they spent many years actively involved in the youth church bus ministry, where they impacted countless young lives and forged everlasting friendships.

Throughout his diverse career, PJ wore many hats: from being a pit crew member and mechanic to a plumber, roofer, truck driver, welder, boat rental business owner, hotel manager, and eventually a boat delivery driver before retiring. However, it was his role as a devoted father to his seven children that he cherished most deeply. They were his pride and joy, and he dedicated his life to ensuring their happiness and success.

PJ was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Joseph Milazzo and Mamie Musso. He is survived by his loving sister, Melanie DeSalvo; his devoted children, Denise, Kimberly, Christopher, Joseph, Sampson, Naomi, and Nellie; his niece, Hope; and a joyful gathering of grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will carry his spirit forward.

The love PJ shared, the sacrifices he made for those he cared for, and the kindness he extended to others will forever remain etched in the hearts of all who knew him. He was a treasured husband, father, and Papaw, whose impact on the lives of many will be felt for generations to come. PJ was deeply loved and will be missed more than words can express.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in his honor to the Food Ministry at First Baptist Church in Islamorada, Florida.

His celebration of life is being held Sunday, May 18th at 6pm at the Beachside area of the Islamorada Fish Company, M.M. 81.5.
