Obituary

Salvatore Milano, affectionately known as Sal, passed away on August 14, 2026, at Mariners Hospital in Tavernier, Florida. Born on September 4, 1940, in West New York, New Jersey, Sal’s life journey was one marked by deep devotion to his loved ones, steadfast work ethic, and a vibrant presence within his communities.

Sal was the beloved husband of Karla Milano (Hightshoe). Their story began in 2007 at a party in Key Largo, an encounter that blossomed into an enduring partnership filled with laughter, warmth, and mutual admiration. It was love at first sight, a connection strong enough to see them through new adventures and chapters—from a move to Colorado in 2015 to returning back to their cherished Florida Keys in 2017. Sal and Karla solidified their bond in marriage in 2020, building a life together surrounded by family and friends.

A proud graduate of the Class of 1958, Sal answered the call of duty and served his country with honor in the United States Navy from 1958 to 1965. His years in the Navy left an indelible mark, shaping his resilient character and commitment to service.  He was proud to have served on a wooden minesweeper ship as well as in Cuba at the Bay of Pigs in 1961.

Sal went on to forge a successful career as the owner of amusement rides on the Seaside Heights Boardwalk in New Jersey and Jacksonville, Florida. The laughter of children and the happy bustle of families enjoying themselves were a testament to his hard work and entrepreneurial spirit until his retirement from the business in 1999. Ever industrious, Sal found new purpose as an electrician with Martini Electric in Key Largo, where he worked faithfully until his retirement in 2015.

Sal was a motorcycle enthusiast who loved to ride his Harley.  He was Past President of the Black Piston Motorcycle Club before founding the Heathens Club in Key Largo.

Sal’s memory will be forever cherished by his loving wife, Karla; his brother William and sister-in-law Joann; his sister Barbara Ernest and brother-in-law Fred; his nieces Danielle, Tracey, and Denise; his nephews Greg and Darren. He also leaves behind Boo Boo, who held a special place in his heart.  Sal is preceded in death by his mother Dorothy Dobson, his father Salvatore Milano Jr., and Reba, who brought joy to his life.

Those who knew Sal remember him as a devoted husband, loyal brother, caring uncle, and a cherished friend. His life was defined by a quiet strength, unwavering integrity, and the ability to put smiles on the faces of those he encountered. Whether sharing stories from his time in the Navy or supporting loved ones through life’s ups and downs, Sal’s legacy is one of love, dedication, and community.
