Sharon Wampler “Mimi”, a beloved mother, grandmother, retired
teacher, and cherished member of the Florida Keys community,
passed away peacefully on November 10th in her Islamorada home.
Born in Peoria, Illinois, Sharon and her husband Samuel Wampler
moved to the Florida Keys in 1977 to open the Florida National High
Adventure Sea Base.
As a longtime resident, she was known for her generous heart, gentle
wisdom, and unwavering commitment to helping both people and
animals alike. Her beloved dog, Ginger, will be missing her terribly
and it will be difficult to find her a new companion.
Sharon was a proud member of Florida Keys Electric Company’s
Charitable Trust Fund, truly using this vehicle to help local members
of the community in times of need.
As a teacher, she touched the lives of generations of students with her
patience, humor, and belief in their potential even continuing to tutor
after retiring from the full-time classroom. Her greatest joy, however,
came from her family. She was a devoted mother and grandmother
who filled every gathering with laughter, stories, and love. Her life
will live on through her wonderful boys, Augie (Sabrina) and Zack
(Leah), and her grandkids, Saylor, Hudson, Zane, Declan, and Olive
and the many friends who were fortunate enough to know her.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Florida Keys
Humane Society, honoring Sharon’s lifelong love and compassion
for animals. The Wampler Family would like to particularly thank
her wonderful caregivers that enveloped her with love and care when
she needed it the most. Bruce, Jenny, Endeara…we will be forever
grateful.
