William J. Irwin

January 6, 1938 - April 15, 2024

William J. Irwin, beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on April 15, 2024 surrounded by his loving family. He was 86 years old.

William, known to many as Bill, was born January 6, 1938 in Queens, NY, to William and Winnifred Irwin. He grew up in Williston Park and went to Minneola High School, where he met his high school sweetheart, Bette Meissner. Bill and Bette married on October 26, 1962 and shared 62 years of cherished memories and unwavering love. They raised their two daughters, Robin (Steve) Heckman and Gretchen (Jeff) Casterella in South Florida, and retired to Plantation Key in 2001, where they have lived ever since.

Bill spent most of his career as a firefighter for the City of North Miami Beach and will be remembered for his humor, his faith, his passion for golf, and his steadfast love for his wife, family, and friends.

In addition to his loving wife and daughters, Bill is survived by his grandchildren Savannah, Steve, Jake, Jack, and Matthew; sister Wendy (Perry) Welch, nephew John Carter, niece Gale (Mark) Stevens-Jackson, and a host of extended family and dear friends.

William J. Irwin will be deeply missed but never forgotten. May he rest in eternal peace.

Mass for Bill will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 30th, 11:00 am, at San Pedro Catholic Church in Islamorada (89500 Overseas Hwy). In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Amedisys (https://www.amedisys.com/). Their loving and professional palliative and hospice care was a true blessing.
